ARL Center for UAS Propulsion (CUP) Summer Undergraduate Internship 2022

We are looking for motivated undergraduate summer interns to work within the ARL Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Propulsion (CUP) in 2022. The students will be working at the ARL Center for UAS Propulsion within the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or one of the other satellite locations.

(Area 1: UAS Propulsion Energy Conversion)

  • Investigation of fuel chemistry for UAV applications
  • Energetically enhanced ignition of UAV propulsion systems
  • laser and optical diagnostics of UAV propulsion systems
  • numerical simulation of energetically enhanced UAV propulsion systems
  • numerical simulation of aerospace turbocharger physics

(Area 2: UAS Propulsion Materials)

  • Advanced Materials for Multi-Fuel Ignition system
  • Nano-material based ceramic material development
  • Geopolymer based ceramic material development

Eligibility: undergraduate or graduate student with U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
Expected pay level: $2000-2500/month. for the 3-month summer period, starting date and duration will be negotiated
Preferred background: majoring in mechanical, materials science, or chemical engineering with an intention to obtain a doctoral degree
