Multi-Fuel Capable Hybrid Electric Propulsion: Area 3
Reliable, Light-weight Advanced Materials: Conduct unique propulsion materials research to discover, innovate, and maturate novel materials and concepts to enable the next-generation of Army unmanned/manned air/ground vehicles. Research into advanced light-weight alloys and novel manufacturing techniques is highly desirable. In addition, protective coatings with low thermal conductivity and high wear resistance are of great interest for low heat rejection engines with high durability. Bench and component level testing will focus on technologies to enable improved operational energy for future Army unmanned air/ground vehicles across the full spectrum of ambient conditions.
